MEDICO INSURANCE'S A.M. BEST RATING UPGRADED
November 29, 2007
Omaha, Nebraska (November 29, 2007) – Medico Insurance Company’s financial strength rating (FSR) has been upgraded by A.M. Best, well-respected rating service for insurance and reinsurance companies, to B-, from its previous rating of C++, and its outlook has been revised to positive from stable.
This significant change reflects the revitalization that has been occurring at Medico over the past five years. On September 28th, Medico Insurance Company finalized the sale of its closed block of Long-Term Care business, along with its subsidiary, Medico Life Insurance Company, to Ability Resources, Inc. Medico CEO Timothy Hall said at the time, “This sale will position us well to grow our core businesses and remove the significant capital demands of a block of business that we were no longer selling.”
In 2002, Medico’s management team initiated a strategic vision that has produced a 121% increase in surplus over the last five years. Medico’s risk-based capital percentage, a measurement of the minimum amount of capital that an insurance company needs to support its overall business operations, has also grown threefold since 2002. Throughout this transition, Medico has maintained its commitment to the policyholders and agents, never compromising on the services afforded them.
The strength of these developments allows Medico to expand product lines and geographic coverage through its trusted independent sales network. As individuals over the age of 50 begin to transform their ideas about retirement and health needs, so will Medico continue to develop the products to serve them.
